| - Make yourself as comfortable
as possible in your seat. If you didn't have the opportunity
to wear loose-fitting clothes, perhaps because you have a business
meeting scheduled for directly after landing, you should at
least loosen the belt of your trousers and wear the comfortable
socks often provided by the airline for the duration of the
flight rather than your shoes.
- Immediately after take-off, start drinking water at regular
intervals. Avoid drinks containing caffeine and alcohol as
far as possible, as they have a dehydrating effect. At the
very least, you should restrict your consumption of alcohol
to a couple of drinks.

- Keep your legs uncrossed while seated - that restricts the
blood flow. The blood flow through the veins in the legs is
up to two thirds slower in the sitting position than when standing
anyway. Crossing your legs just makes it worse.
- Get out of your seat at regular intervals and walk up and
down the aisle, on tiptoe if possible, or else unfurling each
foot from the heel to the toe at each step. If you are prevented
from doing this by the cabin crew, then walk on the spot for
a few minutes, standing with your left foot and then your
right foot on tiptoe.
- If you want to sleep during the flight, make sure that
your legs and lower body are relaxed along their entire length
and not bent.
