Acetylsalicylic acid, the active
ingredient in Aspirin®, has been recommended for many years
by international migraine and headache experts for the treatment
of headache in an acute migraine attack. This is due in particular
to the development of new formulations such as effervescent
or chewable tablets and knowledge of the required dosage - 1,000
mg for an acute attack, according to the recommendations of
the German Migraine and Headache Society (DMKG). Since guidelines
for Controlled Trials of Drugs in Migraine were issued in 1991
by the International Headache Society acetylsalicylic acid (ASA),
the active ingredient in Aspirin®, has come under scrutiny
in a large number of studies, the results of which were positive.
They leave no room for doubt as to the efficacy and safety of
acetylsalicylic acid.

A
Reader's Digest survey carried out in18 European countries showed
that, in several countries, of all analgesics Aspirin® is
the one which is by far the most trusted.
This is why Bayer, in whose laboratories acetylsalicylic acid
was first synthesised in a chemically pure and stable form over
a hundred years ago, has developed specially buffered effervescent
tablets specifically for the treatment of "migraine headaches",
the efficacy and tolerability of which have been tested in accordance
with the latest scientific criteria. The effective buffering
system not only sets the sluggish gastro-intestinal motility
of migraine patients in motion again and speeds up gastric emptying
it also ensures that it is well tolerated in the stomach. As
the active ingredient in the effervescent solution is already
available in dissolved form, after it passes through the stomach
it is rapidly absorbed by the gut and can
rapidly take effect. According to experts, about 50 per cent
of all migraine attacks could be considerably reduced in severity
if medication were taken in time, i.e. at the first signs of
an impending attack.
