Wash your hands frequently, especially after contact with other people or surfaces, before meals or cooking, or after using the toilet. Remember that cold- and flu-causing germs can survive several hours on any kind of surface.
Avoid touching your eyes, mouth or nose as much as possible. That way, you will avoid transmitting viruses you might carry on your hands.
Limit contact with people suffering from colds or flu. This way, you will avoid becoming infected yourself as well as spreading the illness to others should you pick up the virus.
Don’t smoke. Smoking produces mucosal disruption, which provides a welcoming environment for cold-causing viruses. Also avoid smog and secondhand smoke as much as possible.
Reduce stress. It has been proven that stress reduces our natural defenses against the most common germs, and stress is known to be a factor in heart disease, headaches, asthma and many other illnesses. To reduce stress, take deep cleansing breaths, eat healing foods such as fruits and vegetables, exercise gently and get proper amounts of sleep.
